Orderly books, 1783.

Orderly books, July 22 - September 27, 1783 and October 9 - November 7, 1783 (some pages missing at beginning of 2nd vol.) of the Corps of Artillery at West Point and Newburgh, N.Y. They contain garrison, corps, regimental and headquarters orders, and include resolutions of the Congress, Washington's farewell address, and accounts of courts-martial.

After June 17, 1783, all artillery with the Continental Army was formed into a battalion-size force of two companies. The corps was commanded by John Crane until November 3, 1783, when he was replaced by Sebastian Bauman. On June 11, 1784 this was reduced to one company. From the description of Orderly books, 1783. Sebastian Bauman (1739-1803), a Revolutionary War cartographer, served as New York City postmaster from 1786 until the time of his death in 1803.
